A Tribute to Memorial Day - The Ultimate Sacrifice

For many of us, this Memorial Day will be filled with family, friends,  sunshine, the beach, and backyard barbecues.  But for the families and friends who have lost loved ones as they were serving this great country we live in, it is a day of remembrance, sadness, and tears.

I had a chance to visit Washington DC a year and a half ago.  Our trip was filled with friends, food (lots of food), lots of walking, history, museums, and memorials.  By far, the most memorable and surreal memorial we visited was Arlington Cemetery.  To see the hundreds and hundreds of white headstones was just mind-blowing and sad.  While we were there, we were able to watch the changing of the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.  If you've never witnessed this before, I would highly recommend that you add it to your bucket list!

As I sat waiting for the ceremony to begin, I couldn't help but think of all of the families who had a loved one who was represented there.  The Unknown Soldier.  It was completely silent.  Except for the clicking of the shoes as the soldier guarding the tomb walked back and forth in honor of his fallen brother.  They never take a break.  There is always someone on guard no matter the weather or circumstance.  It was an truly an honor to watch.

So as we are celebrating a day off work and a day of celebrating with our friends and family, let's take a moment to remember those that made it possible for us to live in this great country and enjoy the freedoms that we have.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart!  May we never forget!

Stephanie and Nick's Fun Engagement Session

As a photographer, you always hope to be able to connect with your clients and bring out their true personalities.  Well I hit the jackpot with Nick and Stephanie!  They were probably one of the most enjoyable and fun couples that I have ever photographed.  I've known Stephanie for pretty much her whole life.  I didn't meet Nick until the day of the shoot, and I felt like I'd known him forever!  Let's just say that I had no trouble breaking them out of their shells!!!

There is no question that these two love each other and just enjoy being together and spending time with each other.  We laughed so much during their session that my cheeks hurt!  Their family joked that it was the Stephanie and Nick show.  I was thankful that I had my camera ready for those moments where they were just being their goofy selves and I was able to capture it forever!

I'm so happy for these two and I can't wait to celebrate their wedding with them.  I know they are going to have a wonderful, fun-filled marriage and I'm glad I was able to be a small part of that.  Nick and Stephanie, I wish you the best now and forever!!

Lee and Renee's Surprise Engagement Session - Hawk Ranch, Murrieta, CA

I had the privilege to witness the sweet, surprise proposal of my nephew Lee to his girlfriend Renee.  I was so honored and happy to be a part of their special moment and I was so glad that I was able to capture their memories for them. To say that she was surprised was an understatement!!

I loved watching them interact.  It's very obvious how much they love each other and I'm so happy for the both of them.  I look forward to watching them start this new chapter of their lives together as they become man and wife. So, good for you Lee, for finding such a great girl and for making the proposal such a memorable one.  I love you both and I'm super excited for you two!

Remembering 9/11

Never Forget - My tribute to 9/11

15 years ago today, our country was changed forever.  We all became witnesses to the hatred that is in this world.  I will never forget where I was and what I was doing that horrible day.  I was glued to the television in shock and disbelief that this was actually happening right here in our country.  To me, things like this just didn't happen here, but now, sadly, this has become our new reality.

This last October, I had the honor to visit New York and Ground Zero.  It definitely felt like sacred ground.  All those images that I remembered from TV that day came flooding back.  To walk around the reflection pools and see the thousands of names and know that they are someone's mother, father, brother, sister, daughter, son, friend, colleague, hero was almost too hard to imagine.  To walk through the 9/11 Museum and see the devastation that took place was overwhelming and emotional.  To watch someone being escorted through the museum, who was there that day, and to watch the emotions on their face brought tears to my eyes.  People were so united after 9/11, but it seems like so many have forgotten which breaks my heart.  My prayer is that all of us who call ourselves Americans, whether we are black, white, or whoever we are, or wherever we came from, would stand together and support each other in love and unity and remember those who are no longer with us because because of someone's hatred.

Now we have the Freedom Tower at One World Trade Center as a reminder that we don't forget the sacrifices that you made for us that day.  I love that we didn't let those who hate us, and tried to destroy us, also defeat us.  We stand strong against those that hate us and want to bring us down.  We may not defeat them in my lifetime, but rest assured, God will have the last word.  I will never forget.......EVER!!

Family Photo Shoot at the Awesome Hawk Ranch, Murrieta, CA

Justin, Lisa and little baby Kimer Lily were so fun to photograph.  Despite the wind, animals running amok, and a baby, we ended up having a great photo shoot.  Little Kimber barely made a sound and even the dog cooperated better than some humans!  We chose this location of beautiful Hawk Ranch in Murrieta because number one it's absolutely beautiful to photograph and number two, they wanted their dog Stella to be in the family pictures.

They were such a sweet, fun-loving couple and you could just see the love they had for each other and for their brand new baby.  And what's not to love;  Kimber Lily was absolutely adorable and we barely heard a peep out of her the whole time.

I hope to be able to photograph this family for years to come and be able to watch Kimber grow up.  Thank you Vidal family for allowing me to capture your memories!

If you need family pictures taken, please give me a call at 951-206-6863 or visit my website at:  http://www.rhondasamuelsphotography.com
